Exporting your emails to HubSpot Marketing
This article applies to the Email builder in all plans.
Level Up your Emails in HubSpot
You can easily design your emails in the Beefree builder and then push them to HubSpot for sending. Our connector allows you to export an email to HubSpot with only one click.
The HubSpot connector enables you to export the following from Beefree to HubSpot:
- Your email design
- The Name of the email you are exporting
- The Subject line of the email
- The Preheader of the email*
*Consider the following regarding Preheaders:
-
- If you export your design from Beefree to HubSpot and edit your Preheader text within HubSpot, this does not automatically sync with Beefree. If you export the same design from Beefree, the Preheader within Beefree will not override the Preheader text in HubSpot.
- If you do not include a Preheader for your design within Beefree, once you export it to HubSpot, you can manually add one to your email template.
For you to set up the HubSpot connector, your HubSpot account settings need to include:
- A Marketing Hub Professional or Marketing Hub Enterprise HubSpot account
- All Admin permissions, as well as the following User permissions in Marketing Access:
- Read, write, and publish access to Email
- Edit code templates & modules
- All the other permissions in the screenshot below
All set? Now you can choose to connect your accounts in one of the following ways:
- From the Workspace Settings section: connect your HubSpot account before you start designing.
- From the Export options of your email.
Setting up a connector does not sync your designs with external services. If you update a design after exporting it, you must re-export to see the updates. The export file will populate as a new design inside your ESP.
Follow the steps below or watch our video tutorial.
1. Connect from Workspace Settings
Go to Settings > Connectors.
Click the Connect button for HubSpot.
Fill out the information in the modal to begin setting up the connector. Please note that your HubSpot credentials are not stored in Beefree. They are just used to connect your accounts.
2. Connect from Export
When your email is ready, click on the Export button on the Email Details page. This option is also available from the actions menu for your email.
Then click on Push to your sending system.
A new modal will display the list of available connectors. Select HubSpot and follow the steps to connect your accounts. If you have already connected, you will not be asked to do so again.
Beefree will confirm that the design has been successfully exported. You will see it appear in your HubSpot account. Log in to your HubSpot account, and your email will be available:
- As a template when creating a new email in Email > My templates
- As an HTML file in the HubSpot Design Manager, in a dedicated folder called Beefree.*
*Emails exported through this method can be edited manually within HubSpot. You will need to edit the HTML code of the email to apply changes. As a no-code alternative, we recommend applying your edits within Beefree and exporting the design to HubSpot again. This will update your existing design with your changes.
- As an HTML file in Marketing > Email.*
*Email templates available through this method can't be edited within HubSpot, they must be edited in Beefree. Once the changes are complete, you can export the email to HubSpot again to update the existing design.
HubSpot Required Content
HubSpot requires that you include certain variables in your email template. If any of the following are missing, you will receive an error:
Prints the company city (set in Content Settings > Email > Footer Information).
Prints the company name (set in Content Settings > Email > Footer Information).
Prints the company state (set in Content Settings > Email > Footer Information).
Prints the company address (set in Content Settings > Email > Footer Information).
Prints the URL of the page that allows recipients to manage subscription preferences.
We've preloaded the builder with this syntax so you can access it by default.
- To add all the info in your footer, use a pre-defined footer under Rows > HubSpot Footers.
- To add only the company's info in a text block, select the desired position and open the merge tags menu. You can also use the @ shortcut on your keyboard.
- To add only the unsubscribe link, first select the text that you want to use. Then click on Special links > HubSpot > Unsubscribe. Special links are also available in the sidebar when working with images and buttons.
You can add new HubSpot variables by adding new merge tags and special links to your workspace settings.

Update your Beefree email designs in HubSpot
The Beefree app will recognize if you are exporting an updated version of your email design to HubSpot. Upon this recognition, the Beefree App will ask if you’d to select one of the following options:
- Update your current email design within HubSpot.
- Create a new email in HubSpot.
- Create a new email within a different HubSpot account.
You can use either of these three export options to apply changes to existing email designs and export them to HubSpot.
Use our no-code builder and avoid HubSpot code editor
Revisiting your email design within the Beefree App allows you to update it as needed over time without the hassle of editing it inside the HubSpot HTML code editor. This method of maintaining and updating your email designs provides you with the continued benefit of a no-code approach to email creation. Use this feature to update your email designs quickly and without hard coding your changes.
Update Emails to HubSpot Steps
Take the following steps to update an email design within Beefree and export it to HubSpot:
- Log in to the Beefree App.
- Navigate to your email design.
- Enter the email design.
- Apply the changes you’d like to make to your design.
- Click Export on the upper right-hand side of the screen.
- Select the Push to your sending system option.
- Select HubSpot from the list of options.
Select one of three available options:
- Update the current email design in HubSpot.
- Create a new email in HubSpot using the email design.
- Create a new email design using a different HubSpot account.
- Once you select one of these three options, the Beefree App will send your email in the version and to the destination you selected.
Additional Considerations
When updating your existing email design with the HubSpot Marketing connector in Beefree App, consider the following:
- If your design has multiple versions (Multilingual design), you can export your preferred version by selecting the language from the drop-down menu and choosing either the "Update existing" or "Create as new" option.
- HubSpot requires certain tags to be filled in. Now, Beefree will show an error before export, alerting you to add the necessary tags to your emails in Beefree before exporting them.
HubSpot Business Unit Selection
Introduction
HubSpot’s Business Units Add-On allows Marketing Hub Enterprise customers to manage multiple brands within a single HubSpot account. With this feature, you can customize the branding for each business unit, making content creation and management easier. This section explains how to use Business Units in HubSpot, with a specific focus on associating marketing emails with different business units.
Prerequisites
- HubSpot Marketing Hub Enterprise subscription
- Purchased Business Units Add-On
- Super Admin Access to enable beta features (optional)
How It Works
Managing Business Units
Once you’ve purchased the Business Units Add-On, you can create and manage up to 10 additional business units. HubSpot automatically provides a business unit property to help you tag and organize assets, properties, and contacts for each unit.
- Navigate to the Business Units section in HubSpot to set up your units.
- Customize branding for each business unit to streamline content creation across your brands.
- Each business unit will have its own dedicated management area in HubSpot.
Associating Marketing Emails with Business Units
By associating marketing emails with business units, you can segment and analyze email performance by brand. This allows you to filter marketing emails by business unit, making it easier to generate brand-specific trends and reports.
To enable this feature, which is currently in beta, take the following steps:
- As a super admin, open the account menu.
- Go to Product Updates and select the In Beta section.
- Search for “Associate Emails to Business Units” and click Join Beta.
Note: To disable, click Leave Beta (this option is available only when the beta is enabled).
Once enabled, your marketing emails will be associated with the selected business unit during export. The exported email will be visible in the Marketing > Email section for that business unit and the All Business Units view.
Exporting Marketing Emails to Business Units
The behavior of your marketing email exports will vary based on whether the beta version is enabled:
- Beta Enabled: During email export, you'll select a business unit, and the exported email will appear in both the selected business unit’s email section and the All Business Units view.
- Beta Not Enabled: Even if you select a business unit during export, the email will only appear in the first business unit’s email section in the All Business Units view.
Default Flow (Without Business Units Add-On)
If you haven’t purchased the Business Units Add-On, you’ll follow the standard email export flow in HubSpot, without the option to assign emails to different business units.
Additional Considerations
- Post-Release Behavior: You’ll need to disconnect and reconnect your HubSpot account from Beefree to see the new business units step.
- Email Subscription Settings: You can set up different email subscription types for each business unit under the Marketing tab, ensuring that each unit's emails comply with subscriber preferences and regulations.
This feature simplifies multi-brand management, helping you better organize marketing activities and analyze performance by business unit.
Multiple Workspace / Customers
Do you work with multiple brands or clients and need to easily manage all your emails and templates?
No problem! The Enterprise Version of Beefree allows you to set up different workspaces to better organize your email creation workflow. Enterprise allows you to specify different connectors for each workspace, so you never need to switch accounts.
For example, say you are a digital marketing agency with 10 clients that all use HubSpot. With Enterprise, you can create ten workspaces in Beefree and connect each of them to their specific HubSpot account.

It is not clear whether Hubspot Starter users can install Bee at all, or if it can be installed but requires a manual export/import process for emails.
Hello Holly, thank you for your comment.
To use our Hubspot connector, you need a Hubspot Professional or Enterprise account. If you want to use your design in the Hubspot Starter tier, you may be able to do so by copying/downloading the HTML and images and importing them into Hubspot.
