How pricing is changing in 2019

There are over 500 SaaS applications that have adopted our editor and that rely on it to provide a great & reliable user experience to their users. They are integrating BEE more deeply within their application, and are looking for even better ways to do so.

In order to continue to invest heavily in our product, strengthen the support team around it, and better meet our customers' needs, we are introducing some pricing changes for the first time since 2015. Here is a quick overview, and more details here.

  • Prices on the StartUp and Silver plans increased by 20%. For example, if you were paying $100/m for your StartUp subscription, you now pay $120/m.
  • The price of the Gold plan was reduced to $1,800/month, along with the number of pre-paid users it contains. New features have been added to it.
  • Yearly plans are available for all three plans, with a 10% discount compared to the monthly subscription. So you can reduce the 20% increase on StartUp and Silver by signing up for a yearly subscription. Simply log into the Developer Portal, click on upgrade, and switch plan.

  • A new "Message Services API" is available to users of the Gold plan & above, providing some new, advanced functionality, including:
    • get the latest HTML for an existing message, without having the user open the message in the editor & re-save it;
    • generate a PDF;
    • create a thumbnail;
    • merge an updated saved row (e.g. a footer) into documents that use it (coming soon).

  • Companies needing a customized license agreement or personalized security assessment are required to sign up for the new Enterprise plan.
  • Changes for new customers become effective on March 25, 2019. For existing customers, they go into effect on April 25, 2019.

FAQs on 2019 pricing changes

I'm on the StartUp plan. What's changing?

Starting with your first billing date after April 25, 2019, the price will go up by 20%. The total price will depend on usage, as it does today. Just like today, 50 unique users of the editor will remain included in the monthly subscription price. So, for example:

  • If you have 40 unique users in a month, you will pay $120
  • If you have 60 unique users in a month, you will pay $144 ($120 for next month's base subscription, plus 10 extra users at $2.40 per user for the previous month)

At any time, you will be able to switch to an annual subscription and save 10%.

I'm on the Silver plan. What's changing?

Starting with your first billing date after April 25, 2019, the price will go up by 20%. The total price will depend on usage, as it does today. Just like today, 1,000 unique users of the editor will remain included in the monthly subscription price. So, for example:

  • If you have 800 unique users in a month, you will pay $600
  • If you have 1,400 unique users in a month, you will pay $840 ($600 for next month's base subscription, plus 400 extra users at $0.60 per user for the previous month)

At any time, you will be able to switch to an annual subscription and save 10%.

What if I'm on a yearly plan and I exceed the pre-paid users?

No problem. If you switch to a yearly subscription, and you go over the pre-paid users, we will accumulate those charges until they reach $1,000, and then charge your credit card for that amount, if the amount is reached before the yearly renewal. Otherwise, we simply charge you at renewal.

For example, let's say you are a on StartUp plan, and you pre-paid for a year, but you typically exceed the 50 pre-paid users as there are around 120 users per month that use BEE inside your application. You would have monthly usage fees of (70 * $2.40) - 10% = $151.20 (the 10% discount is because of your yearly plan). After 7 months, those fees would amount to $1,058.40, so we would charge your credit card for that amount. You would then start accruing again, but not reach the $1,000 threshold until the yearly renewal, so you would be charged for the additional usage-based fees at renewal.

I embedded BEE as an email editor. Will I pay extra for using BEE for landing pages?

BEE for Landing Pages has different features and configurations. It's a different product, although there is the same drag-n-drop editor at the core. So the answer is "yes", as you will need to create a separate instance of the editor in the BEE Plugin Developer Portal, selecting "Landing Pages" as the editor's mode. The new instance will be associated with a new subscription, and discounts will be available to those that already have a BEE Plugin subscription.

Do you already have a timeframe when we can expect more information about this?
I'd really love to integrate BEE plugin into our application but given that we're short on resources I would only do this if I know that it's worth the effort ;-)

Hi David, we just published some pricing information above. Hope you think the pricing model is fair. Cheers!

    Hi Massimo,
I have sent in a couple of emails asking about implementation of this pricing structure and suggesting an extra Bronze level for those of us who unlikely to require the 1000 users but still want the other paid features. As I haven't received any replies to my emails I'm left wondering if this is feasible or not? Thanks..

Hi Justin, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Busy with BBQ and fireworks this weekend :-)
We replied to your ticket this evening.

    Hi Massimo,
I'm testing the beta version of the plugin and the filepicker is available when I try to change an image previously inserted (but it does not appear when inserting the image); so in the free version will the filepicker be available or not? When do you plan to end the beta period?

And, as per Justin suggestion, are you thinking about a "Bronze" level? I think that the difference between 0 and 6000$ per year it's too wide :)

  • Avatar
    Massimo Arrigoni

Hi Andrea, yes, we are thinking about potentially adding a "Bronze" level. We'll post an update on that soon.

What about for 1 user that is looking to create responsive email newsletters 2-4 times a month and wants to be able to save multiple templates and not have to use the BeeFree logo? I really like the free version BeeFree offers right now and I am excited about the program but I just hope that the price is not too steep.

Hi Massimo, could I get into the beta program. This tool has tons of potential, and I'd like to start integrating it into my app.

Hi Massimo, for me it's not clear the concept of "user". I'm going to use the BeePlugin in a web application that's going to be used by different accounts. But still I can't figure out what a "user" is in BeeFree and where they are defined.

  • Avatar
    Massimo Arrigoni

Hi Fabio, the user is defined by the UID parameter that you pass to the plugin (https://support.beefree.io/hc/en-us/articles/360004495552-Configuring-the-editor). In your case, you will probably pass to the plugin a different UID for each of those accounts.

    Hi Massimo,

Under the Silver plan, is the source code available for download, or is the editor only available hosted through your servers?

    thanks.

  • Avatar
    Sergio M.

Hi Sam, all the BEE Plugin paid plans as well as the free plan are hosted on Amazon Web Services. It's currently not available as an on-premise solution.

    Sergio, Massimo

Great work on building solid software. We are interested in purchasing.

Any update on whether we are able to run the editor without making requests out to your server? Since we only require the editor as code (we'll be storing data), calling your server at runtime to pull JS code onto our SAAS is proving hard to justify architecturally for a couple of reasons.

  • Avatar
    Massimo Arrigoni

Hi Sid, you can choose to load the JS locally, but your users may not be loading the latest version of the editor (we do send you updates, however, when a new version is released). The part that you cannot host locally, however, is the HTML parser that is invoked when the JSON created by BEE is turned into HTML (https://support.beefree.io/hc/en-us/articles/360004495092-Where-are-messages-saved-). Happy to jump on a call to further discuss (contact us here: https://beefree.io/contact-us/). Cheers!

    Massimo,
Will my price per subscription change if I'm on Gold Membership and the next month only 200 users log in to the system? This prices include VAT?

  • Avatar
    Massimo Arrigoni

Hi Rui, no once you are on a certain plan, you will be billed at the minimum amount for that plan, unless you wish to downgrade. You cannot upgrade/downgrade multiple times within the same billing period.
There is no VAT because BEE Plugin is provided by MailUp, Inc, a US-based corporation.

    Hi
Is there any way of saving user email / templates online in the plugin version?
    Thanks

    Hi Simon.
To use the plugin, you must provide all the user and message workflow.
If you want a plug & play standalone application you may be interested in BEE Pro: https://beefree.io/email-builder-team-agency/

    Hi Guille

Thanks for getting back to me, although what I am looking for is clarification on functionality. Is it possible to save an email (not as a downloaded HTML file, but on the cloud) so that it can be used as a template for future emails?

    Thanks

    Simon

Hi Simon, yes, this how BEE Pro works, it gives you a complete email design workflow where you can save, edit and export messages.
You can check the available features at the following page:
    https://beefree.io/bee-pro/pricing/

You can create a 15 days free trial and experience how it works.

The Plugin is a javascript web widget that your developers must embed in an application.
